Summer is the best time of year, BUT with all the sun, chlorine and saltwater exposure you encounter from going to the beach, pool and lounging in in the sun, its easy for your skin and hair to suffer. I live in Jamaica , an island with a tropical climate all year round, so I figured I'd share my tips and tricks and what I plan to add to my summer beauty regimen this year.
Skin Care
A daily moisturizer with SPF is a must !!The summer sun can cause premature aging such as wrinkles and age spots: and we don't want that do we? I use clean and clear's Dual action moisturizer which fights pimples while moisturizing your skin.Another added benefit is that its oil-free , and I don't know about you but my face produces more oil in warm weather , so I tend to go for the oil-free moisturizers.Another thing I
cannot live without is a lip balm with SPF. What I'm using right now is BABY lips by Maybeline and yes it does actually make your lips baby smooth and keeps them from getting dry and cracked from extremely hot weather.I mentioned earlier that my skin gets really oily in warm weather, to control this I use proactive's
refining clay mask once a week. The clay pulls and absorbs toxins and excess oil from your pores . I also use this as an overnight spot treatment for any little pimples I might get . I love it!. I use
coco butter to moisturize my body and I add coco butter's
skin therapy vitamin E oil especially to my legs.
Hair Care
I'm currently trying to grow out my hair this summer and sometimes it seems impossible when I know every time I go to the beach or pool I'm damaging my hair not to mention when I blow dry and flat iron it after I go to the beach/pool. However I'm determined to have some progress by . 1)
Protective styling as much as possible. Protective styling means wearing hair styles that keep the ends of your hair protected such as buns , up-doo's, faux bobs , princess braids etc. By hiding the ends of your hair you minimize contact of the penetrating sun on your hair and also reduce breakage caused by the ends of your hair brushing on your clothes and other surfaces that dry out your hair. 2)
Heat protectors. I use argan oil/serum and Tresame's heat protector as a "sunblock" for my hair when I do wear it down.3)
Wear a leave-in-conditioner to the beach/pool and wash your hair ASAP after you're finished swimming. 4)
Deep Condition. I really try to deep condition my hair more often in the summer time . Deep conditioners penetrate the hair shaft to strengthen it from the inside out.
Those are some of things I do to keep my skin and hair healthy during extremely hot /humid weather. One final tip. Drink a lot of water! This definitely helps to prevent your hair or skin from getting dry. I hope this blog helped anyone considering how to alter their beauty regimen in preparation for the hot weather.
